Annual Campout Under the Stars

Annual Campout Under the Stars

AUGUST 17-18, 2018

Moqui Group Campground, Coconino National Forest

As another summer comes to a close, another Campout comes and goes!

This year showed a smaller turnout than the last few Campouts, which drew crowds of up to 60 people! With only 30, however, we still managed to have a wonderful time around the fire. It was an intimate setting, with every attendee knowing at least one other person at the event, and nearly everyone knowing many more! We even had a small group of agency reps stay over from the Society for Range Management Summer Meeting, which took place over the previous two nights at the same campsite, at the Moqui Group Campground in the Coconino National Forest.

We had representatives from the US Forest Service, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the AZ Game & Fish Department, both Diablo Trust ranches, the Coconino County Board of Supervisors, the Bureau of Land Management, the AZ State Land Department, and the University of Arizona Extension Service, not to mention a variety of private business and some individual who came just to have a good time.

As usual, beer was donated by Mother Road Brewery, and we had beef donated by Diablo Burger for our burger dinner! The potluck dinner was rounded out by a few great salads, fruit, and desserts.

The group stayed up late by the fire, sharing stories, jokes, songs, and reflections. There was even a short ‘roast’ of Jeremy Krones, the out-going Diablo Trust Program Manager.

The next morning started slowly, but we eventually got the ball rolling towards a delicious breakfast of biscuits and gravy, with eggs and fruit. Certainly no one went hungry!

This was a very nice way to close out the summer, and to close out Jeremy’s tenure at DT. Thank you to everyone who came!
