National Hunting and Fishing Day
On the fourth Saturday of every September, NHF Day recognizes generations of sportsmen and women for their contributions to the conservation of our nation’s rich sporting heritage and natural resources.
Arizona Public Lands Day
Arizona is blessed with a diversity of majestic Public Lands including National Parks and Monuments, State Parks, preserves, National Forests, rangelands, wildlife refuges, and wilderness area. HB 2271 celebrates those lands. The text of the bill points out how these public lands enrich our lives, positively impact our economy, and support and protect our precious natural resources. Declaring and celebrating a Public Lands Day is a positive way for Arizonan’s to express their love and support for public lands and outdoor recreation.

World Water Day
Glacier preservation
Glaciers are melting faster than ever.
As the planet gets hotter, our frozen world is shrinking, making the water cycle more unpredictable.
For billions of people, meltwater flows are changing, causing floods, droughts, landslides and sea level rise.
Countless communities and ecosystems are at risk of devastation.
As we work together to mitigate and adapt to climate change, glacier preservation is a top priority.
We must reduce greenhouse gas emissions to slow down glacial retreat.
And, we must manage meltwater more sustainably.
Saving our glaciers is a survival strategy for people and the planet.
Protecting frozen water resources for the future
The theme of World Water Day 2025 is ‘Glacier Preservation’.
Glaciers are critical to life – their meltwater is essential for drinking water, agriculture, industry, clean energy production and healthy ecosystems.
Rapidly melting glaciers are causing uncertainty to water flows, with profound impacts on people and the planet.
Global reductions in carbon emissions and local strategies to adapt to shrinking glaciers are essential.
This World Water Day, we must work together to put glacier preservation at the core of our plans to tackle climate change and the global water crisis.
Key messages for World Water Day 2025
Glaciers are melting faster than ever. As the planet gets hotter due to climate change, our frozen world is shrinking, making the water cycle more unpredictable and extreme.
Glacial retreat threatens devastation. For billions of people, meltwater flows are changing, causing floods, droughts, landslides and sea level rise, and damaging ecosystems.
Glacier preservation is a survival strategy. We must work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and manage meltwater more sustainably for people and the planet.

Meat Processors Day on the Land
Come join us for our first field event of 2018: a trip to the Perkinsville Meat Processors! This will be an educational and interactive tour of a local, family-owned business that has worked closely with the Flying M Ranch and a vast number of other ranchers, farmers, and hunters throughout northern Arizona. This trip will allow us to see the inside of the plant . . . to be "in the room where it happens."
On this trip we will learn about the history of the business, the intricacies of meat processing and packing, and how closely the Ducote family works with open lands owners, managers, and users.
We will get an introduction to this industry and some of the finer points at the 2018 Annual Meeting, by Sam Garcia, Ph.D., who is the program manager of the Food Product and Safety Lab in the School of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences at the University of Arizona.
No need to bring a lunch! We'll all be eating at the Casa Grande Mexican Restuarant in Chino Valley. Payment TBA.
Please bring:
- plenty of water
- snacks
- long pants
- closed-toe shoes/boots
This is primarily an indoor visit, so weather-oriented clothes aren't necessary!

Come join us for our last (and rescheduled) field event of 2017: a Bison Day on the Land! This will be an educational and interactive tour of Raymond Wildlife Area (RWA), 15,000 acres of open land managed by the AZ Game & Fish Department, east of Flagstaff on Rte 40. Bison have been at RWA since the 1940s, and this year they got a brand new herd of pure-bred bison. This trip will allow us to be some of the first visitors to the ranch with the new animals.
On this trip we will learn about these ancient native creatures, mangement of bison and the landscape, and how collaborative land and resource management plays into RWA's interactions with its neighbors: the Flying M and Bar T Bar ranches!
You can read about bison in the Fall 2017 issue of Ground Truth!
Please bring a brown-bag lunch, and:
- hat & sunglasses
- warm coat

Here's your chance to find out! Come on out and spend the day on the Bar T Bar Ranch to learn about some big projects happening on the ranch, that will benefit both the Flying M and Bar T Bar ranches, as well as the wildlife and ecosystems of the surrounding landscapes.
